Nagano area<\/h2>\n

\nNagano prefecture is the setting for the so-bad-and-yet-so-good mahjong series Saki<\/I>.<\/p>\n

\nThe hall where the prefectural finals are held – in actuality, the Raisin Hall in Shiojiri city, an hour south of Nagano city.<\/p>\n

Matsushiro<\/h2>\n

\nMatsushiro is a little town deep in the mountains south of Nagano city.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\nIt’s also the town in which Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin<\/I> is set.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\nThere are quite a few plateaus around town, but this one looks the closest to the one where the academy is located. <\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\nThe bunker beneath Mt. Zousan. These tunnels were dug during the war to serve as a shelter for military command.<\/p>\n

Ueda<\/h2>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\nUeda is a fairly major locality located south of Nagano city.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\nUeda city is the setting for Summer Wars<\/I>. You can still see banners for the movie here and there about town.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\nMore recently, the city has also become associated with fujoshi favourite Sengoku Basara<\/I>, due to its historical connection with feudal hero Sanada Yukimura.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\nThe local tourism centre has a bunch of notebooks and posters illustrated by the Summer Wars<\/I> director. The notebooks contain messages and illustrations from visitors.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\nNot a real yorozuya<\/I> like in Gintama<\/I>, unfortuantely. It’s just a restaurant.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\nUeda castle. Like Matsushiro castle, there isn’t much left of it now except the foundations and the gate.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\nAs one might expect, the ema rack is inundated with fujoshi illustrations.<\/p>\n

\nOnce you leave the area near the station and castle, it gets rural pretty quickly.<\/p>\n

\nIf you can survive this rather brutal climb up Iseyama, you can get some great views of the city and surrounding villages from the ruins of Toishi castle. This is where the main household in Summer Wars<\/I> is situated.<\/p>\n
