In order to access the gate, you need to take the ferry from Miyajimaguchi station to Miyajima island. <\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01230.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01234.JPG\" width=\"404\" height=\"539\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">The bay isn&#8217;t very big, so you can see the gate even from the mainland shore. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01251.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">This is the dock from the Miyajima island side. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01254.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">No, it&#8217;s not a shrine &#8211; this is actually the dock building from the outside. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"test10.jpg\" width=\"539\" height=\"303\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">Miyajima island is home to a number of wild deer. They just wander the streets hassling the locals for food. <\/span><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"test11.jpg\" width=\"539\" height=\"303\"><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01300.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"test17.jpg\" width=\"539\" height=\"810\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">The gate is lit up at night for your convenience. The rest of the island, however, is pretty much closed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01327.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">I was accosted by a gang of deer on the way back. They snatched one of the tourist brochures from my pocket and ate it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Hiroshima<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01334.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01336.JPG\" width=\"404\" height=\"539\"><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01338.JPG\" width=\"404\" height=\"539\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Hiroshima has this excellent tram system that combines the convenience of frequent services and short stops with the benefit of being able to see where you&#8217;re going. Also, it&#8217;s very cheap. <\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"test16.jpg\" width=\"539\" height=\"358\"><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"test19.jpg\" width=\"539\" height=\"358\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">This is the atomic bomb dome in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a building preserved from the time when the atomic bomb hit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"test18a.jpg\" width=\"539\" height=\"358\"><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01371.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">The children&#8217;s peace memorial. Those booths behind the monument contain strings and strings of paper cranes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"test22.jpg\" width=\"539\" height=\"810\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">The peace clock tower. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<h2>The Sunrise Express<\/h2>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01392.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">This is the Sunrise Express, a train that runs overnight from near Okayama in west Japan all the way to Tokyo. All up, the journey takes about 8 hours. We were assigned seats by pure fluke because nothing else was available, but there were guys here with heavy duty cameras trying to get a picture of it, so I guess it must be pretty famous amongst the tetsu-otaku.<\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01398.JPG\" width=\"404\" height=\"539\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">The doors on the right here lead to the higher class individual cabins. We, of course, got the public capsule-like bunk beds. <\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01399.JPG\" width=\"404\" height=\"539\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">There&#8217;s no food trolley like on the Shinkansen, but there <em>is <\/em>a vending machine on board. <\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01401.JPG\" width=\"404\" height=\"539\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">The corridor leading to the communal bunk beds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"test24.jpg\" width=\"539\" height=\"358\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01404.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01418.JPG\" width=\"404\" height=\"539\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">It may seem small, but there&#8217;s plenty of room for you to put down your stuff and sleep.
