You can catch this rather colourfully decorated train there from Sendai station. <\/span><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00291.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00293.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\">Matsushima is famous for its pine-tree covered islands. Three of these islands are accessible from the mainland, each being connected by one of these red bridges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00296.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00300.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\">The southernmost island has a whole heap of these statues, some of which had coins strewn around their base as an offering. <\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00302a.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"303\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\">The views from all three islands are breathtaking. <\/span><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00328.JPG\" width=\"404\" height=\"539\"><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\">All three islands have shrines at which offerings can be left. <\/span><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00320.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\">We actually crossed through the pines themselves to get between the south and middle islands, but after getting fairly scratched up, we found out that there was a perfectly good road that you can take. <\/span><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00324.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p ><span class=\"style16\">I thought this was someone&#8217;s house, but it&#8217;s actually a hotel. <\/span><\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00334.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"303\"><\/p>\n<p >This last bridge to the north island is a toll bridge, but it&#8217;s easy to see why &#8211; it&#8217;s hundreds of metres long. <\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00338.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"303\"><\/p>\n<p >The north island is a good place to get a view of Matsushima bay. <\/p>\n<p >&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/td>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Matsushima Just an hour from Sendai in the northeast of Japan is Matsushima, one of the Nihon Sankei (&#8216;Three views of Japan&#8217;).
