It&#8217;s most famous for the Ghibli museum situated there. Pictured is the Ghibli bus, which runs between the station and the museum.<\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00146.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">Footpaths can be insanely narrow to non-existent in some parts of Japan, but here in Mitaka, they&#8217;re not only wide, but clearly demarcated out in green. Nice. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00149.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span class=\"style16\">This is the Toho bakery, just a little ways down from the Ghibli museum. They have all sorts of goodies here, including&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00150.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">&#8230;Melon-pan. <\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00152.JPG\" width=\"404\" height=\"539\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Each lampost along the main street has a plate bearing a poem. <\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00147.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Contrary to what you might expect, you can&#8217;t buy tickets to the museum at the actual museum. You&#8217;ve got to buy them at the Lawsons (they&#8217;re a big convenience store chain) across the road. This particular Lawsons had a bunch of Ghibli merchandise for sale too. <\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00157.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">This is the actual museum. You can&#8217;t take pictures inside, so here&#8217;s one from the outside. <\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC00155.JPG\" width=\"218\" height=\"539\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">A replica of one of the giant robots from <em>Laputa<\/em> can be found on the roof. <\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Koganei<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"DSC01535.JPG\" width=\"539\" height=\"404\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The Gainax building is located in Koganei, not too far past Mitaka. Unfortunately, it&#8217;s just a dull  office building.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"test13.jpg\" width=\"539\" height=\"303\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The area around the building is pretty industrial, which might have contributed to the art direction in some of Anno&#8217;s work.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/td>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mitaka Mitaka city is a district just west of Tokyo.
